A Lilliput Next Door
The Strange World of Bungalow Heaven

In early 2020, David and Sarah left VDL in Silver Lake for Bungalow Heaven in Pasadena. A 180° turn from Neutra’s monument to mid-century modern to the sleepy, leafy Arts & Crafts 16-block area North of the 210 freeway. Turns out, more eccentricity can be found in those 16 blocks than one can imagine. Every garden, patio, and window ledge has been populated with fairies, gnomes, memorabilia, etc… Not just haphazardly plonked there as an afterthought of some random Amazon covid-induced tchotchke shopping binge but as actors in elaborate adventures in miniature. You’d think these were the fantasies of a five year old but you’d be mistaken. The neighborhood’s adult inhabitants realities must just be different than most, possibly due to the above average number of true rocket scientists living here. After all, Jet Propulsion Labs is just up the street. It is truly a surreal world where the Cheshire Cat would feel right at home. Did I mention it is full of cats?
